Family Photographer Hadfield

Home is Where the Heart Is

When photographing families I love to start in the home. People are always worried about their homes, is it tidy enough, big enough, fancy enough or finished enough, but trust me your home is perfect just as it is. Documentary family photography is all about where you are now in this moment in time as a family. Alex and Phil were in the middle of renovating their new home in Hadfield, Derbyshire when they had their family shoot, with doors still to go on, walls to be plastered and painted and only Finn’s room finished, but Finn was just approaching his first birthday, taking his first steps, it was a very exciting and special time for them as a family and deserved to be captured in all it’s glory.

After exploring Finn’s awesome new climbing wall, having some adventures with his pirate ship and reading a story or two we headed outside to the local park in Hadfield to soak up some nature, have a bit on an explore and get some lovely outdoor photographs of Alex, Phil and Finn as a family. It was also a great opportunity for baby Finn to show off his spectacular new walking skills. I was very impressed! After some walking around like an absolute pro we kicked about Hadfield park together with some time to play on the swings, get thrown on the air and even smack his own Dad in the face a few times before bedtime it was a very eventful shoot and an absolute pleasure to photograph Finn as he approached his first birthday.

Going back to see my couples after their wedding day is always a special treat and going to meet a new addition to the family beats nothing else! It is awesome to see the lovely tiny human who has been created in the time that has past, see the changes in the house, the toys of the floor, the photographs, the old spare room that has now been made into a bedroom for their first baby together.

Knowing that children grow so fast I love capturing kids at this age, Josef’s tiny feet, hands and gorgeous soft downy hair will slowly grow into something bigger and stronger. There soon will be a point when he doesn’t need help to feed himself, clothe himself anymore, hell he’ll even be able to go to the toilet on his own! These days at the beginning of Josef’s childhood are precious and disappear so quickly.

Although parenting though this phase of a child’s life can be challenging and tiring (although Josef was a complete star when I was there!) there’s most definitely a magic to this time in a young families life and it’s a real honor to be able to capture it.

If you are interested in having a documentary family shoot like Josef’s get in touch!

I'm currently shooting families on Sundays through peak wedding season so if you would like to book your Sunday Family Shoot. Get in touch!

Manchester Documentary Family Photographer - Evie's Birthday Shoot

00064Evie.jpg

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting up with Evie and her family in their beautiful home in Didsbury, Manchester. It was a cold Autumn morning, thick fog hung in the air like a little bit of Halloween magic was waiting for us outside. It was also the day before Evie’s first birthday. We stayed at home for a little bit while Evie had her bath, some cuddles from Mum and Dad, got dressed and was given some of her birthday presents. These are my favorite type of family photos to take. The normal little parts of Evie’s child hood, little every day things like Evie’s Mum putting her shoes on for her are more special than they might seem at first, there will be a day not too far in the future when Evie will be able to put on her own shoes, get dressed and wont need that help any more and that’s what makes being able to capture this fleeting little piece of Evie’s history extra special.

I am currently running some special offers on Family Shoots at the moment, offering different levels of coverage for all budgets… Please check out my Seasonal offers here…
